Man killed in clash over distribution of money
A man was killed and five others were injured in a clash between two groups in Sonargaon upazila of Naraynganj on Sunday night over distribution of money of illegal sand lifting.
Deceased Zakir Hossain was the son of late Araz Ali, a resident of Tekpara Amirabad village under Baidyerbazar union.
A syndicate of 20-25 people, led by Baidyerbazar union unit Jubo League president Nabi Hossain and Amir Hossain, has been lifting sand illegally from Meghna River in Anandabazar Amirbad area for a long time.
An altercation took place between the two groups at night over distribution of money.
As a sequel, both the groups equipped with lethal weapons attacked each other around 11:30am, leaving six people injured including Zakir.
The injured were admitted to Sonargaon Upazila Health Complex and Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Zakir, a follower of Amir Hossain, was declared dead by the on-duty doctor at DMCH.
The body was kept at the hospital morgue and a team from Sonargaon Police Station was sent there, said officer in-charge Maniruzzaman Manir.
