Sanitary pad vending machines to be installed at DU
Female students of Dhaka University (DU) can buy sanitary pads in retail price from 10 sleeted places of the campus from Wednesday. The pads will cost Tk10 each instead of the grocery market price Tk14.
Students will obtain the service from 10 vending machines in 10 different places of the campus. Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU ) along with ACI group initiated the service to ease female students' menstruation period challenges with ultra thin Freedom Sanitary Napkin.

By placing a conventional Tk10 note after year 2001, into the vending machine, a sanitary napkin will automatically be delivered to the service seeker. There will be two disposable bins and two towels by the each machine. One person to assist students in solving any problem, including napkin buying will be with each machine till the first month. Also the hygienic issues to be maintained, said Tilottaama.
"We want to wage a social movement through installing vending machines from DU against the taboo already established in our society regarding menstruation of women, the DUCSU member added.
Along with five female dormitories, the vending machines have been installed in Teacher-Student Centre (TSC), girls' common room of Arts faculty, Business Studies faculty, Fine Arts faculty and Science Library.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni will inaugurate the service on Wednesday at TSC.
