A memorial meeting on poet-architect Rabiul Husain


A memorial meeting was held at the premises of Shaheed Minar on November 30 to commemorate the recently demised veteran poet-architect Rabiul Husain. Jatiya Kobita Parishad was the organiser of the programme.
At the beginning of the meeting, guests observed one minute of silence in memory of this eminent poet. Then the programme commenced with a performance of Tagore song by singer Laisa Ahmed Lisa. Respected speakers were- director general of Bangla Academy Habibullah Sirazi, poet Kamal Chowdhury, cultural activist and thespian Nasir Uddin Yusuff, chairman of Centre for Urban Studies Professor. Nazrul Islam, director of Institute of Architects Bangladesh Jalal Ahmed and others. Poet's son Zishan Husain, sister Beauty Husain, brother Tariq Husain and nephew Arnob Hasan were also present at the meeting. They all recalled the remarkable works and contribution of Rabiul Husain to the Bengali literature. Emceed by Hasan Arif, general secretary of Sammilita Sangskritik Jote, poet Tariq Sujat recited a mourning note, written by noted essayist and trustee of Liberation War Museum Mofidul Hoque.
The Ekushey Padak recipient poet died recently, aged 76, on November 26 due to blood infection and thyroid gland complexity. Born on January 31, 1943, Rabiul Husain completed his graduation from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He authored over 25 books of poetry, essay, novel and children's books. As an architect, Rabiul designed many residential, institutional and public buildings. He is one of the leading architects of the '70s, an era marked by accomplishments and revolutionary ideas.
