Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said BNP is trying to catch fish in troubled water by creating anarchy in the country.
“BNP is trying to catch fish in troubled water by creating anarchy in the country. They (BNP mew) do not abide by laws and even do not except the verdict of courts,” he told a meeting of the moncho and decoration committee, formed ahead of Awami league’s national council, held at the party’s Bangabandhu Avenue Central Office in the capital, reports BSS.
Qauder, also the Awami League General Secretary, warned if BNP men try to create anarchy in the name of movement, they would be dealt with iron hand.
“If they carry out a movement (against the government) politically, they will be handled politically too,” he added.
Coming down heavily on BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, he said during the reign of BNP, it created a power centre of making money through Hawa Bhaban.
But, Quader said, the Awami League government did not set up any such power centre while Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina launched a anti-graft drive from her own house (party).
About the upcoming national council of Awami League, he said the council will be held in a simple manner as the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be celebrated next year in a colourful way.
The countdown of Bangabandhu’s birth centenary celebration will begin on December 8 next, he said.
The 21st tri-annual central council of Bangladesh Awami League will be held on December 20-21.
Chaired by AL Joint General Secretary and the moncho and decoration committee convener Jahangir Kabir Nanak, the meeting was attended, among others, by AL leader Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Organising Secretary AKM Enamul Haque Shamim and Cultural Affairs Secretary Asim Kumar Ukil.
