'Wartime' mortar shell found in Akhaura

A mortal shell was found under ground by some construction workers in Akhaura upazila of Brahmanbaria on Saturday afternoon.

Some construction workers spotted the mortar shell in Durgapur village when they were digging soil for construction works of a building, said local ward councilor Md Tazul Islam.

Locals assume that the mortar shell might have been thrown in the area during liberation war, 1971.

Police members and Boarder Guard of Bangladesh went to the place and kept the spot surrounded.

Akhaura Police Station officer in-charge Rosul Ahammed Nizami said bomb disposal unit of Bangladesh Army was informed about the matter, he added.
