The brother of Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi, who was torched by some fellow students, on Thursday said he was happy with the verdict of a Dhaka court which jailed former Sonagazi OC Moazzem Hossain for eight years.
Nusrat's brother Rashedul Hasan Raihan, expressed his satisfaction over the verdict while talking to journalists on the court premises this affternoon.
"We're satisfied with the verdict. Nusrat's soul will rest in peace now," he said in an instant reaction after the verdict.
Raihan and his maternal uncle Syed Selim were present in the courtroom during the judgement.
Syed Selim said OC Moazzem deserves the punishment. "If he took proper steps, then Nusrat would not have died. We are happy with the verdict," he added.
Earlier, a Dhaka Court sentenced Sonagazi Police Station's former OC Moazzem Hossain to eight years of imprisonment in a case filed under the Digital Security Act for releasing a video recording of a statement by Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi on social media.
Nusrat Jahan Rafi, 18, an Aleem examinee from Sonagazi Fazil Madrasa, was set on fire by some fellows in the morning of April 6 as she refused to withdraw a case filed against the madrasa principal, Sirajuddoula, for sexual harassment.
