One killed in Magura clash

A man was killed and more than 50 people were injured in a clash between two groups in Mohammadpur upazila of Bhola on Saturday.

Deceased Mukter Molla, 65, was resident of Shibrampur village in the upazila.

Quoting locals Mohammadpur Police Station officer-in-charge Tarak Nath Biswas said Ayen Mridha had a logger head with co-villager Jafar Biswas over establishing supremacy in the area.

Supporters of the two groups locked into an altercation over cutting a tree in a disputed land in the morning.  At one stage, attackers entered Mukter’s house and hit him with lethal weapons, leaving him dead on the spot.

Houses were torched and vandalised during the clash.

On information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control.

Police detained eight people in this connection.
