680 detained in Malaysia for online scam
Some 680 Chinese nationals have been detained in Malaysia for allegedly cheating people through online fraudulence.
Malaysian Immigration Police raided a flat in the town of Cyberjaya on Wednesday and busted the online scam syndicate. They also detained the syndicate members. The detainees are aged between 19-35.
During the drive, 8,230 mobile phone sets, 174 laptops and 787 computers were recovered. The seized goods are believed to have been used to run the scam.
Malaysia's Immigration director-general Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud confirmed the matter.
The accused have been shown arrested in Money Laundering Act in Malaysia and placed on remand for interrogation, he said adding that the Chinese Embassy has been informed about the arrest.
