TCB starts onion sale in open market
KHULNA, Nov 21: Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has started selling imported onion in open market for the first time in the city at Tk 45 per kg from Thursday to help people buy this commodity at a fair price.
After beginning of onion scarcity in the country, TCB has taken the step to sell onion in the open market.
"We have started open market sale of onion today at five spots in the city initially," said Khulna Regional Officer of TCB Md Rabiul Morshed on Thursday.
To contain the soaring onion price, the Ministry of Commerce has already instructed the TCB to sell the onion at a subsidised rate in the country, he also said.
He further said that none will get chance to stockpile onion, and TCB will sell the essential item at the the government fixed rate.
TCB has disclosed open onion markets in Tutpara area in front of DC office, Battala near New Market, Khalishpur, and Moylapota intersection, he added.
The lower and middle class dwellers of the city became very happy to get the onion in a comparatively cheap price.
Local public representatives and law enforcement agencies are helping the TCB vans sell the onion in a disciplined way.
None was given more than one kg onion, TCB sources said.
