Three get life term in two districts
Three persons got life-term jail on different charges in two districts- Rajshahi and Barishal, in two days.
RAJSHAHI: A court here on Tuesday sentenced a person to life-term imprisonment and also fined him Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer five more months in jail for possessing heroin.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Emdadul Haque delivered the verdict against Abdul Latif, 70.
As per the prosecution, police arrested Abdul Latif along with 2.4 kilograms of heroin from Madarpur area in Godagari Upazila of the district on April 26, 2015.
After investigation, police submitted charge-sheet against him.
BARISHAL: A local court on Monday sentenced two persons to life-term imprisonment and fined each Tk 50,000, in default to suffer one more year's rigorous imprisonment, for murder.
The convicted are: Iqbal Mahmud and Masudul Islam of Char Hogla Village under Mehendiganj Upazila of the district.
District and Session Judge of Barishal Md Rafiqul Islam declared the verdict.
The court also acquitted three others from the charge, while one accused died during trial.
According to the prosecution, the convicts chopped a day-labourer Idris Majhi over land dispute on June 12, 2015, leaving him seriously injured. Later, he died at a local hospital.
A case was filed in this connection with Mehendiganj Police Station accusing eight persons.
Police filed charge-sheet against five persons.
Out of the convicts, Iqbal was absent during the trial.
