BSC to procure 6 more mother tankers, 10 lighter vessels

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 20: The state-owned Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) has decided to procure two mother bulk carriers, 10 lighter ships, two mother tankers and two mother product oil tankers by the year 2021.
It was disclosed by the Managing Director of BSC, Commodore Suman Mahmud Shabbir to local journalists in a press briefing on Wednesday on the occasion of the 42nd annual general meeting of the organization.
The Managing Director also said BSC had earned a net profit of Tk55.23 crore during the past 2018-19 financial year while it earned Tk12.52 crore in 2017-18 fiscal.
The BSC MD claimed that the volume of net profit had increased due to addition of six vessels in the BSC fleet this year.
He also said the total number of ocean-going vessels of the state-owned Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) has now increased to eight.
Six new ships were added to the fleet of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) at a cost of Tk1, 637 crore and 15.15 lakh in the current fiscal 2018-19.
Of the total cost, Tk1, 527.66 crore came from project assistance while Tk109 crore and 49.15 lakh came from the government treasury.
