Keeping SUST halls open during vacation demanded

The Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) students have demanded the authorities keep dormitories open during winter vacation.

They made the demand at a human chain formed in front of the library building at about 12:30 on Wednesday.

Participants at the programme said the 3rd Convocation of the university will be held on January 5 in the next year. The authorities decided to delay the winter holidays and to vacate the dormitories during the period in the name of security ground for the convocation.

The students protested at the decision and urged the authorities to keep the dormitories open.

However, the administration obstructed the students for forming the human chain without taking permission from the proctor office, they alleged.

But, the proctor Professor Zahir Uddin Ahmed said it needs authority permission to arrange any programme on the campus premises. The students must comply with the rules made by the university authorities.
