Village doctor hacked dead over land dispute
A village doctor was hacked to death by a man in Dhunat upazila of Bogura on Wednesday afternoon over land dispute.
Deceased Abdus Sabur, 36, was the son of Rahim Baksh, a resident of Nandiapara area in the upazila. The village doctor was also a member of the upazila Jubo League.
According to sources in Dhunat Police Station, Abdus Sabur had long-standing dispute with his co-villager and former expelled general secretary of Nimgachi union Jubo League Kamrul Islam over the ownership of a piece of land.
In the afternoon, someone familiar called him out of the home over mobile phone and took him to an abandoned house in West Nandiapara.
An altercation took place between them there. At one stage, the man hacked Sabur indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured.
Hearing his screams, locals rushed him to hospital but he died on the way.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue, said officer in-charge Ismail Hossain.
However, the body bore several stab injuries, the OC added.
A man was detained for interrogation about the murder, said OC Ismail, adding that a police hunt is on to detain the perpetrators.
