2 to die for rape, murder of RMG worker
A court in Pabna on Wednesday sentenced two persons to death penalty for killing a garments worker after rape in Sujanagar upazila in 2012.
The condemned convicts are: Azim Hossain, 45, of Bangram in Sujanagar upazila of the district, and his friend Iqbal Hossain, 44, of Nabinagar area of Dhaka.
After examining the records and witnesses, Judge of Pabna Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Waliur Rahman delivered the verdict.
The court also fined them Tk 1 lakh each.
According to the case statement, the convicts brought a garments worker Kakoli, 30, from Dhaka to Sujanagar on September 4, 2012 with a promises of marriage.
They took her to a nursery at Ramjibanpur at night, raped and strangled her.
On information, police recovered the body the following day.
A case was later filed with Sujanagar Police Station in this connection.
Police arrested Azim and Iqbal after tracking their phone calls. Later, they confessed to raping and murdering the woman.
However, the other accused in the case was acquitted as his guilt was not proved.
