Transport strike in Barishal, Patuakhali called off


The indefinite strike, called by the transport workers protesting the implementation of new Road Transport Act, was called off in Barishal and Patuakhali districts on Wednesday.

Passengers breathed a sigh of relief as bus movement began on all the inter-district routes.

Confirming the matter, Barishal District Road Transport Workers' Union president M Jahangir Hossain told media that the work stoppage enforced on Tuesday morning was withdrawn this morning.

He said the central committee of Workers' Federation will sit on Thursday and Friday.

The next course of action will be announced as per the decision taken in the meeting.

In Patuakhali, the situation became normal after four hours of bus strike that began on Wednesday morning.





Transport workers in different district went on work stoppage on Monday protesting the new act which came into effect from November 1.
