Aman harvesting begins in full swing in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI, Nov 19: Farmers in Tanore Upazila of the district have started harvesting Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) paddy in full swing with the hope of getting bumper yield.
The farmers had successfully cultivated Aman paddy taking advantage of favourable weather, sufficient rainfall and various farmer-friendly programmes undertaken by the government.
Sources at the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in Tanore said, this year's Aman farming target in the upazila was 21,520 hectares of land, and the farmers cultivated the paddy in 22,460 ha of land.
Farmer Ziaur Rahman of Kuniapara Village under Mundumala Municipality in the upazila said, "I cultivated 'Sumon Swarna' variety of Aman paddy in seven-bigha land this year spending Tk 25,000. The paddy of my land has already ripened. I have started harvesting the paddy in full swing."
Farmer Habibur Rahman of Chimna Village said, "I cultivated Aman on 30-bigha land. Out of those, I have already harvested the paddy of 20-bigha land. But, I am a bit worried about getting fair price in the market."
Upazila Agriculture Officer Shamimul Islam said farmers are expecting bumper Aman yield this year due to favourable weather and availability of agro inputs supplied by the government.
