Sorry state of Noakhali road mounts people’s sufferings
BEGUMGANJ, NOAKHALI, Nov 19: The sorry state of Boropole-Pakmunshirhat Road in Begumganj Upazila of the district has increased people's plight.
For lack of repair for long, thousands of people of 10 villages are suffering much while commuting by the road.
Due to presence of numerous potholes, vehicles are plying through the road amid much risk of accidents. About 1,600 big and small vehicles ply through the road every day.
While visiting the road recently, it was found that the 10-km road from Boropole to Pakmunshirhat has not been repaired for long. As a result, the road has become unsuitable for communication.
Every day, thousands of people of different villages, including Latifpur, Rafiqpur, Yarpur, Ghatla, Kadirpur, Gayespur, Babunagar, Boro Khanpur, Joykrishnapur, and Anantapur cross the road. It is the only road to go to Pakmunshirhat, which is the largest market in the south-eastern part of the upazila.
A housewife Sufia Khatun, who commutes by the road regularly, said, "We cannot carry any emergency patient by the road as ambulance drivers do not want to use the road for its deplorable condition. We are in great danger because of the road. If the road is repaired soon, we will get rid of the plight."
A CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Rahim said, "We suffer much for running our vehicles by the road. After driving for whole day, we become extremely tired. Our vehicles get easily damaged. As a result, we have to spend much for repairing our vehicles."
There are various educational institutions on both sides of the road. The students of those institutions suffer much while crossing the road.
A student of Kadirpur High School Ahsan Habib said, "We are suffering much while going by the road. Our uniforms become dirty."
In this connection, Upazila Engineer Abdur Rouf Molla said, "If we get allocation, we will repair the road."
