Transport workers withdraw highway blockade after 2hrs

Transport movement on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway has become normal after two hours as the workers withdrew their blockade.

The protesting workers withdrew the blockade around 10am on Tuesday after getting assurance from Md Kamal Hossain, Sramik League leader of Gazipur's Sreepur upazila.

Kamal Hossain told media he assured the worker that he will discuss the matter with the central leaders.

The transport workers took to the street around 8am putting barricade at Mawna Chourasta in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur, creating sufferings to the students of different schools and colleges and office goers.

Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University admission seekers were the worst sufferers due to the blockade.

The Road Transport Act came into effect from November 1.
