'Murder accused' killed in 'gunfight’

A person, accused in murder cases, was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Harinakunda upazila of Jhenidah early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Badsha Hossain, 47, a resident of Jorapukuria village in the upazila.

Additional Superintendent of Jhenidah police Milu Miah Bishwas said a patrol team of the law enforcers took position in Tetulia area at early hours.

Sensing the presence of the team, a gang of criminals opened fire on the police personnel, forcing them to fire back in self-defence.

The police, later, rescued bullet-injured Badshah's from the spot and took him to Harinakunda Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Two bullets and a local gun were recovered from the scene.

Badsha was wanted in number of cases, including of murder and arms, filed with different Police Stations, the ASP said.
