Sand-laden vessel capsize in Meghna river
MUNSHIGANJ, Nov 17: Three people went missing as a sand-laden bulkhead capsized in the Meghna River in Gazaria upazila of
Munsiganj after being hit by a passenger launch early Sunday.
Two of the missing persons are identified as Emdadul, 38, and Aslam, 24.
Officer-in-Charge Harun-or-Rashid of Gazaria Police Station said the vessel, carrying five people, capsized close to the Gazaria launch ghat around 5:50am after being hit by Sadargaht-bound launch 'MV Kirtonkhola-2.'
Of them, three went missing, one managed to swim ashore and the other was rescued by Fire Service and Civil Defence members.
Earlier on Saturday night, police seized five bulkheads following a ban on moving in the river at night.
The Coastguard Station Officer MM Asif said they arrested the launch master Shaidul Islam and some staff over the accident.
