A Bangladeshi citizen, arrested by the Immigration Police in Malaysia, has been languishing in jail after being tortured, alleged the victim’s family.
Family members have urged the authorities concerned to take steps to bring back the man-- Yar Hossain, 34.
Hailing from Akhaura upazila in Brahmanbaria, Yar Hossain was arrested four months ago in a drive by the Malaysian immigration police on charge of illegally staying there, said Md Kamal Hossain, elder brother of the victim.
Kamal said his younger brother was brutally tortured by the Malaysian police after arrest and passing an inhumane life inside the jail in Sarawak State.
Failing to endure the torture, Yar escaped the jail few days ago, but was arrested again on Saturday and admitted to a hospital, added Kamal.
Kamal urged the assistance from the authorities concerned including the Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia in bringing back his brother in the country.
Confirming the arrest of Yar Hossain, Bangladesh High Commission's first secretary (Labour) Hedayetul Islam Mandal said police arrested him on Saturday after he escaped from the Immigration Department Detention Centre.
Mandal said the High Commission would do all possible for sending Yar Hossain back to the country.
