Light traps to check pest attack set up in Pabna Aman fields
PABNA, Nov 14: Light traps to check pest attack in local Aman fields have been set up at Atmile Bazaar in Dapunia Union under Sadar Upazila of the district recently.
Sadar Upazila Agriculture Office took the initiative.
After setting up the traps, the techniques to check insects were discussed in presence of more than 100 farmers.
During the discussion, Sadar Upazila Agricultural Officer Masum Billah said the harmful pests found in the croplands can be eliminated by means of percussion and light traps. Agriculture officials have been working with farmers across the district to install the light traps.
He also said the farmers will be benefitted economically if they adopt this method.
Additional Deputy Director (Crop) of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in Pabna Saiful Islam said they are trying to ensure smooth production of Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) paddy in the district.
He also said light traps have been set up in the paddy fields to detect the presence of harmful pests. This method will play a very effective role in minimising the use of chemical pesticides.
Regional Agricultural Information and Communication Specialist of District Agricultural Information Service Proshanta Kumar Sarkar said the light traps should be set up by conducting extensive field visits.
The Pabna DAE is playing a great role in saving farmers' cost behind pesticides.
ADD (Crop) Saiful Islam attended the programme as chief guest.
Among others, Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Masum Billah, DAE officer Krishwant Kuntala Ghosh, and Assistant Information Officer Tushar Kumar Saha were present as special guests in the event.
