Cyclone ‘Bulbul’ damages Aman paddy in Laxmipur

LAXMIPUR, Nov 14: The recent Cyclone 'Bulbul' has damaged about 78,595 hectares of Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) paddy fields in five upazilas of the district.
Many crops, including winter vegetables, grass-pea, chilli and coriander have also been damaged due to the cyclone.
While visiting, it was found that many lands of Aman paddy and winter vegetables are under water in Shakchar, Bhabaniganj, Tewariganj, Chandkhali, and Maju Chowdhury Haat areas of the district.
Sources at the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in Laxmipur said, besides the paddy fields, 100 ha of winter vegetable, 55 ha of mashkolai, 150 ha of grass-pea, 39 ha of chilli, and 18 ha of coriander fields have also been damaged.
Deputy Director of Laxmipur DAE Belal Hossain Khan said a list of the damage has been sent to higher authority. Besides, they are advising farmers to cut drain and let the rain water out of the fields. After the water completely drains out, the final report of the total damage will be prepared.
