Three persons killed in three districts
Three persons were killed and nine injured in separate incidents in three districts- Narsingdi, Bogura and Noakhali, on Sunday.
RAIPURA, NARSINGDI: A man was killed in an attack allegedly by his rivals over land dispute in Raipura Upazila of the district on Sunday night.
Deceased Md Manik Mia, 50, was a resident of Mahmudpur Village in the upazila.
The deceased's family members said Manik had been at loggerheads with his neighbour Ibrahim Hajji and some others over the ownership of a piece of land.
Manik and his son came under attack in Mahmudpur area at 8:30pm on their way home. Ibrahim and his followers intercepted them while his son Masud stabbed Manik on his abdomen, leaving him critically injured.
Manik was rushed to Raipura Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raipura Police Station (PS) Lutfur Rahman said an accused was detained in this connection.
However, the body was sent to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
BOGURA: An old woman was killed and nine others were injured in an attack allegedly by their rivals over land dispute in Sonatala Upazila of the district on Sunday afternoon.
Deceased Safura Bewa, 65, was a resident of Sonakania Village in the upazila.
Quoting locals, Sonatala PS OC Abdullah Al Masud said, one Advocate Shahidul Islam, son of late Kashem Mondal of the village had a long-standing dispute with his co-villager Abdul Halim Master, son of late Fazal Haque over a piece of land. Several clashes occurred between the two groups over the matter.
Following this, supporters of Abdul Halim Master attacked Shahidul's house on Sunday afternoon, leaving Shahidul, his wife Tamhina, 42, mother Safura, and seven others injured.
The injured were taken to Sonatala Upazila Health Complex where Safura died early Monday.
However, three persons were detained after the incident.
NOAKHALI: A man was beaten to death after chasing cattle thieves in Kabirhat Upazila of the district early Sunday.
Deceased Ibrahim Sabuj, 35, was the son of Joynal Abedin of Debi Singpur Village in the upazila.
Locals said Sabuj confronted a group of cattle thieves after they came to steal at Sawdagar Bari in the upazila early in the morning.
He then chased them as they flew and tried to stop the vehicle where they boarded on.
The thieves, later, beat Sabuj indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured.
He was rushed to a local hospital where he was declared dead.
Kabirhat PS OC Mirza Mohammad Hasan said the body was sent to Noakhali General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
