SUST is the first to use IPv6 in country
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has become the first one in the country to have the latest version of Internet-based IP addresses ‘IPv6’.
The IT manager of the university ASM Khairul Akhter Chowdhury said this while addressing a press conference with journalists at the university’s Computer and Information Center on Tuesday evening.
Teachers and students of the university can easily do whatever research is required for ‘IPv6’ at faster speed, Khairul added.
Among others, acting director of ICT Md Shahidur Rahman, Bangladesh Computer Council’s Data Center Operations Manager Abdul Awal, IP Manager of Royal Green Limited and Core Operations Nazrul Islam were present at the meeting.
IT manager Khairul said a specific address is required to receive and transmit information from one place to another on the Internet and this particular address is the IP address. Its full name is ‘Internet Protocol Address’.
There are two IP addresses -- IPv4 and IPv6-- and SUST is the first of the universities in Bangladesh to come under this system, he added.
