Shelter centres ready to tackle ‘Bulbul’:State Minister

State Minister for Relief and Disaster Management Enamur Rahman on Friday said all shelter centres in seven coastal districts are kept ready to tackle cyclone 'Bulbul'.
The State Minister told reporters after a preparatory meeting held at the Secretariat in the afternoon.
“The cyclone is likely to hit the Southern and Western regions of the country at anytime from Saturday evening to midnight. It may cause a huge loss to the crops,” he said.
A total of 56,000 volunteers are prepared to give assistance in upazilas and districts during the cyclone, said the State Minister, adding that people will be shifted to the shelter centres from their houses considering the overall situation.
Our Bhola correspondent reports: District administration has taken all-out preparations to tackle the cyclone.
Bhola Disaster Management Committee in an emergency meeting at the Deputy Commissioner's Office in the afternoon informed that 668 shelter centres and eight control rooms have been opened while 92 medical teams and 13,000 volunteers were kept ready to tackle the situation, Deputy Commissioner Masud Alam informed journalists after the meeting.
Adequate relief materials are preserved for the people in the area, he said.
District Cyclone Preparedness Programme (CPP) deputy director Md Sahabuddin said employees of CPP and Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) are currently asking people to take shelter in the shelter centres.
Warning signal number four has been issued in the area, Sahabuddin added.
