Seven killed in Panchagarh road crash

At least seven people including two couples were killed in a collision between a minibus and a human hauler in Sadar upazila of Panchagarh district on Friday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as the human hauler driver Rafique, 28, a resident of Chekarmari village, Akbar Ali, 72, of Badinajot village, and his wife Nurima, 65, Makud Hossain, 43, of Raypara village, Nargis Banu, 42, of Sahebjot village, in Sadar upazila, Labu Islam, 25, of Majhipara villlage in Tetulia upazila, and his newly-wed wife Mukti, 19.

Witnesses said a minibus collided head-on with a human hauler, locally known as auto, in Magurmari intersection area around 1:30pm, leaving five auto passengers dead on the spot and two injured.

The injured were rushed to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Panchagarh Fire Service and Civil Defence station officer in-charge Niranjan Sarkar said being informed, they rushed to the spot and found five people dead.

Angered by the accident, local people put up barricade in Magurmari BOP camp area, suspending vehicular movement on the road for hours.

Panchagarh DC visited the spot.
