The government has identified around 11,000 foreigners, who have been living in Bangladesh illegally. The 11,000 illegal foreigners will be deported to their countries soon.
To deport them to their respective countries, the Home Ministry has decided to seek funds from the government as the illegal foreigners don't have money to go back, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Hoque, also Chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order, told journalists on Thursday after a meeting of the committee held on Thursday at the Secretariat.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and other committee members and senior high officials attended the meeting.
After the meeting, the Home Minister claimed that many foreigners are doing business in Bangladesh. Many of them are getting involved in crime. Many are in jail. Jail terms of many have already ended.
"There are many who are illegally staying in the country after their visa expired. The number of illegal foreign is around 11,000. The government is planning to deport them," he said, adding that their embassies are not doing anything to take them back. There are many countries that don't have embassies and those who have aren't taking any steps.
Although their passports expired, they never tried to return home. Even their embassies in Dhaka did not respond when the authorities concerned contacted them to discuss the issue. That is why the government has taken initiative to send them back to their respective countries, he added.
"Our intelligence agencies have already identified them. But they don't even have money to go back. In this situation, the Ministry is planning to seek money from the government to repatriate    them," he said, further adding that most illegal foreigners are the nationals of African countries, like Nigeria and Tanzania. They will ask the government to allocate funds and arrange their repatriation.
Mozammel Haque echoed the Home Minister, saying, "Our intelligence agencies have identified the illegal foreigners successfully. The process of deportation appeared to be complicated as they have no money with them. Besides, some countries don't have embassies in Dhaka.
