Three get life term in 3 dists
Three persons including a woman were sentenced to life term imprisonment on different charges in three districts- Laxmipur, Madaripur and Munshiganj, on Wednesday and Tuesday.
LAXMIPUR: A local court on Wednesday sentenced a young man to life term rigorous imprisonment and fined him Tk 50,000 in a case filed for raping a four-year-old girl.
Lifer Md Belal is a resident of Shyamnagar area in Ramgati Municipality.
Special Public Prosecutor Md Abul Bashar said the girl stayed with her maternal grandmother in Shyamnagar area. On September 3, 2016, Belal entered the house in absence of the girl's grandmother, and violated her.
The victim's grandmother lodged a case with Ramgati Police Station (PS) in this connection on the same day.
Later, police arrested Belal and submitted a charge-sheet against him.
After examining the records and witnesses, District Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Mohammad Siraj-Ud-Daula Kutubi handed down the verdict.
MADARIPUR: A local court on Tuesday sentenced a woman to life-term jail and fined her Tk 50,000, in default, to suffer one more year's rigorous imprisonment for killing her husband over extramarital affair.
Convicted Asma Begum, 32, is the daughter of Siraj Bepary of Dhuasar Village in Kalkini Upazila of the district.
A per the prosecution in brief, the victim Alhaz, 35, son of Sattar Sardar of Purba Botla Village under the same upazila married Asma 11 years back. But, she had an extramarital affair with Rabbi Sardar, son of Lal Mahmud Sardar of Ramnagar Village for long.
Following this, both the husband and the wife had conflicts between them. On January 13, 2018, the convicted along with her fiancé Rabbi strangulated Alhaz and hung the body on the roof of the house.
The victim's sister Sajeda Begum lodged a murder case accusing Asma and Rabbi with Dasar PS.
Sub-Inspector of the PS Md Jasim Uddin submitted charge-sheet accusing Asma.
After examining the relevant documents and evidences, District and Sessions Judge Nitai Chandra Saha found her guilty and handed down the verdict.
MUNSHIGANJ: A local court on Tuesday sentenced a youth in absentia to life-term rigorous imprisonment and fined him Tk 50,000 for abducting a schoolgirl.
District Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Md Zakir Hossen declared the verdict against Shaon Mir, son of Rabban Mir of Beshnal Village in Tongibari Upazila of the district.
Stenographer of the tribunal Md Mehedi Hasan said the convict abducted Farzana Akhter, a student of class nine of Dighirpar SC Institute in the upazila, on September 27, 2012, and confined her in a house. Later, the victim fled from the hideout.
On November 6, 2012, the victim filed a case with Munshiganj Court. Police arrested Shaon and sent him to jail, but he later came out of jail on bail. Since September 21, 2015, he went into hiding.
