Ctg MP Moin Uddin Khan passes away

Chattogram-8 lawmaker and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) executive president Moinuddin Khan Badal passed away at an Indian hospital on Thursday morning. He was 67.

The lawmaker breathed his last around 5am at Narayana Institute of Cardiac Sciences in Bangalore, said his younger brother Monir Uddin.

He had been undergoing treatment at the hospital since October 18.

The leftist politician had suffered a brain stroke last year and became ill since then.

President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury mourned his death.

Hailing from Boalkhali upazila, Badal left his wife, three sons and a daughter to mourn his death.

UNB adds: He had elected an MP thrice from Chattogram-8 constituency. He had a reputation as a great orator in the House.

Badal, who was involved with Chhatra League in his student days, actively took part in the Liberation War. He was one of the key persons who tried to prevent offloading of firearms at Chattogram port during the war.
