Woman gets life term for killing husband
A court in Madaripur on Tuesday convicted a woman and sentenced her to life term imprisonment in a case filed for killing her husband in 2018.
Lifer Asma Begum, 32, was also fined Tk 50, 000 and she have to serve one year more in jail in case of failure to pay the fine.
According to the case statement, Asma had an extra-marital affair with Rabbi Sarder of Ramnagar village that caused a dispute with her husband Alhaj Sarder of Dhuasar village in Kalkini upazila. Following the conflict, Asma strangulated Sarder to death on January 13, 2018.
The deceased's sister lodged a case against Asma and Rabbi with Kalkini Police Station. Police, however, submitted a charge sheet acquitting Rabbi.
After examining the records and witnesses, District and Sessions Court Judge Nitai Chandra Saha handed down the verdict.
