One to die, two get life term in three districts
A person was sentenced to death and two others to life-term imprisonment in separate incidents in three districts- Pirojpur, Barguna and Jhalakati, on Tuesday and Monday.
PIROJPUR: A local court on Tuesday sentenced a person to death and fined him Tk 1 lakh for murdering his wife.
Convicted Abul Kalam, 40, is the son of Abdus Sattar of Boro Shoula Village in Mathbaria Upazila of the district.
Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Md Mizanur Rahman declared the verdict at noon in absence of the convict.
Court sources said the convict had been torturing his wife Jasmine Begum over dowry for long. On September 12, 2015, he beat his wife brutally, and left her seriously injured. Later, she died on way to Dhaka on September 14.
Deceased's brother Saiful Haque filed a case against Abul Kalam with Mathbaria Police Station (PS) on next day.
Sub-Inspector Md Abdul Haque of the PS submitted charge-sheet to the court on November 4.
Following this, Judge Md Mizanur Rahman declared the verdict.
BARGUNA: A court here on Tuesday sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment and fined Tk 20,000, in default, to suffer six months more in jail for violating his daughter in 2017.
Convict Jewel Pyada, 42, is a resident of Khashtabok Village in Patharghata Upazila of the district.
District Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Md Hafizur Rahman delivered the verdict.
Public Prosecutor Advocate Mostafizur Rahman said Jewel made his 14-year-old daughter unconscious by feeding her drug mixed soft drinks on May 25, 2017 in their house, and violated her in absence of her mother.
Victim's grandfather filed a case with Patharghata PS on May 28 in this connection.
JHALAKATI: A local court on Monday sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment for killing his wife.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Sheikh Md Tofael Ahmed declared the verdict against Dulal Khan, son of Fakaruddin of Sonauta Village under Kathalia Upazila in the district.
As per the case statement, Dulal Khan beat his wife Hanufa Begum with a stick, leaving her seriously injured on October 29, 2008. Later, she died on the way to a local hospital.
A murder case was lodged with Kathalia PS, and police submitted charge-sheet against two, but one was acquitted.
