Nusrat murder: 16 including principal Siraj get death

All 16 accused, including principal SM Sirajuddoula, in madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi’s murder case has been convicted and awarded death sentence by a Feni tribunal.
Within seven months of the brutal killing, the District Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Mamunur Rashid delivered the verdict on Thursday .
The condemned convicts are – madrasa principal SM Sirajuddoula, Awami League leader Ruhul Amin, Shahadat Hossain Shamim, Nur Uddin, Imran Hossain Mamun, Hafez Abdul Quader, Iftekhar Uddin Rana, Councillor Maksud Alam alias Moksud, Kamrunnahar Moni, Saifur Rahman Mohammad Zobair, Javed, Umme Sultana Popy, Mohiuddin Shakil, Mohammad Shamim, Abdur Rahim Sharif and Absar Uddin.
The court also fined them Tk 1 lakh each and asked to give the money to the victim's family.
Nusrat Jahan Rafi, 18, an Aleem examinee from Sonagazi Fazil Madrasa, was set on fire by some fellows in the morning of April 6 as she refused to withdraw a case filed against the madrasa principal, Sirajuddoula, for sexual harassment.
She succumbed to her injuries at the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on the night of April 10.
A case was filed with Sonagazi Police Station on April 8 in this connection.
The trial began after police submitted the chargesheet against 16 people in the case on June 20.
