Molla Kawser removed from Swechchhasebak League

Swechchhasebak League president Molla Mohammad Abu Kawser has been relieved of his duties following the crackdown on casinos.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader confirmed media about the matter on Wednesday after attending a party meeting in Dhanmondi in the capital.
He was removed as per the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the AL President, said Obaidul Quader.
bdnews24.com adds: Illegal casinos were operated and controlled by some top leaders of the ruling AL’s youth front Jubo League, Swechchhasebak and other associate bodies in Motijheel area, according to a list prepared by police.
The list showed that the Swechchhasebak League president ran an illegal casino at the Dhaka Wanderers Club, while Jubo League leader and Dhaka South City Corporation Councillor AKM Mominul Haque alias Sayeed ran casinos in Arambagh Sporting Club, Dilkusha Sporting Club, and Mohammedan Sporting Club.
On Monday, the NBR’s central intelligence cell ordered freezing the bank accounts of Kawser and his family members.
Omar Faruk Chowdhury, chairman of the ruling party’s youth front Jubo League, was sacked on Sunday following arrests of several leaders in a crackdown on illegal gambling, extortion and contract-grabbing in the past few weeks.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ordered a crackdown on wrongdoings by leaders of the AL and its affiliates, especially the youth front and student front.
Bangladesh Chhatra League President Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and General Secretary Golam Rabbani had also been expelled on charges of alleged extortion.
