2 fishermen jailed for catching hilsa
Two fishermen have been jailed for ten days for illegally catching hilsa from the Sandhya river defying a government ban.
Executive magistrate Rafiqul Haque handed down the judgements on Tuesday night.
The jailed fishermen are Faisal and Kawsar Sarder, residents of Subidpur village in the upazila.
The district fisheries department and naval police jointly conducted a drive in the river in Roghunathpur Kathaltala area under Kawkhali upazila at night and nabbed the duo.
They also seized 3,000 meters of current nets and a boat from the scene.
