The 14-party alliance is not embarrassed by the statement made by alliance member Workers' Party President Rashed Khan Menon regarding the last parliamentary elections, Mohammed Nasim, spokesperson of the alliance, said on Tuesday.
He came up with the remark while speaking at a roundtable arranged by the combine on the agreements signed between Bangladesh and India during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's India visit in the first week of this month. "Why would the 14-party alliance be embarrassed over the statement of a person? It is an ideological alliance based on the spirit of Liberation War, non-communalism and democratic values," Nasim, also Awami League Presidium member, said.
He, however, said the alliance will seek explanation from Menon over his statement and the issue will come up for discussion in the alliance's next meeting.
Workers' Party General Secretary Fazle Hossain Badsha took part in the roundtable.
Dr Selim Mahmud, Prof of law at Dhaka University, presented a key-note paper in the roundtable, which was participated, among others, by Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal President Hasanul Haque Inu, Awami League Presidium Member Faruk Khan, Prof Syed Anowar Hossain, Security Analyst Maj General (retd) Abdur Rashid, Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Dilip Barua, Tarikat Federation Chairman Najibul Bashar Maizbhandari, Jasad President Sharif Nurul Ambia, Gano Azadi League President SK Shikder, Awami League Central Working Committee Member Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Advocate Qamrul Islam, and Prof A Arafat.
