Prices of winter vegetables fall in Kishoreganj
KISHOREGANJ, Oct 22: Prices of winter vegetables have gradually come down with the arrival of new vegetables in local markets.
Some traders of the district town said, prices of vegetables have declined following the adequate supply of winter vegetables in the wholesale and retail
Various winter vegetables grew aplenty in Karimganj, Pakundia, Bajitpur, Kuliarchar, Katiadi, Itna and Kishoreganj Sadar upazilas this season, the traders said.
Now, per maund brinjal and green tomato are selling at Tk 750 to 800, carrot and cucumber at Tk 1,100 to 1,200, bitter gourd and potato at Tk 1,500 to 1,600, bean at Tk 1,600 to 1,800, lady's finger at Tk 2,000, radish at Tk 200 to 300, ripe tomato at Tk 1,500 to 1,600, per hundred gourd and pumpkin at Tk 1,800 to 3,200 respectively, per maund lal shak and palong shak at Tk 700 to 800, per hundred cabbage and cauliflower at Tk 500 to 2,500 respectively, said local sources.
Sources at Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in the district said a target to produce 1,50,311 tonnes of winter vegetables from 7,630 hectares of land was fixed, but the farmers cultivated vegetables on more land than the target in the district.
Deputy Director of the DAE Md Motiur Rahman said local farmers have started growing chemical and pesticide free vegetables using organic fertiliser.
