Samrat claims paid Omar Faruk Tk 70 lakh, Menon Tk 15 lakh per month, law enforcers say

Expelled Dhaka South Jubo League president Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat paid Tk 70 lakh per month to the expelled Jubo League chairman Omar Faruk Chowdhury and Tk 15 lakh to Rashed Khan Menon, MP.
Law enforcement source told the Daily Observer that Samrat provided this information on remand.
During interrogation Samrat confessed that he paid Tk 70 lakh per month to Omar Faruk Chowdhury from 7 casinos, and Tk 15 lakh to Rashed Khan Menon, MP.
A number of Jubo League leaders, including expelled Dhaka South Jubo League president Samrat, were expelled from the youth front of the ruling Awami League.
Khalid Mahmud, the self-proclaimed member and businessman GK Shamim, and Jubo League Dhaka North unit Joint Secretary General Tarequzzaman Rajib, have been arrested for their links to illegal casinos.
They alleged that the chairman did not approve any committee unless he was paid a sum of money and that he also amended the youth front's constitution to serve his own interest.
Although Jubo League was formed to alleviate poverty and establish the rights of the country's youth, the youth front had deviated from these objectives as top leaders became involved in corruption ranging from tender grabbing to illegal casino businesses, the leaders said.
Meanwhile, detectives have found evidence of selling of Jubo League posts in exchange for money against Omar Farooq.
Joint General Secretary post of Jubo League's Dhaka Metropolitan (North) unit was sold at Tk 1.20 crore to Tarequzzaman Rajib by expelled Jubo League chairman Omar Faruk Chowdhury, according to intelligence agency.
DNCC councillor of the Ward 33, Rajib, allegedly accumulated a vast amount of wealth over the last four years. The amount of wealth of Rajib is around Tk 100 crore.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament Rashed Khan Menon has also been accused of taking money from casinos.
The Rapid Action Battalion arrested Jubo League's central committee leader Golam Kibriya Shamim alias GK Shamim was arrested from the capital with illegal firearms and a huge amount of money.
GK Shamim was arrested two days after the arrest of Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan, another leader of the organisation.
Rashed Khan Menon demanded Tk 70 lakh from GK Shamim and Tk 20 lakh from Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan before 11 Parliamentary election, intelligence source said.
Intelligence agencies had prepared a list of commission takers' from 60 casinos of Dhaka where Tk 120 crore transactions every month. Samrat also said.
There are various types of former ministers, influential political leaders of including ruling party members, Jubo League and some members of law endorsement agency in the list, according to intelligence sources.
Meanwhile, Menon demanded that allegation against him should be investigated. Amid controversy over allegations of corruption, Omar Faruk Chowdhury has been out of the public eye for about two weeks.
