NUFFIC-Netherlands academic cooperation grant to BSMRMU


With a view to develop the maritime sector and specifically to ensure maritime higher education and research in Bangladesh, an academic cooperation grant was exchanged between Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University (MSMRMU), Bangladesh and Netherlands-based academic institution NUFFIC at the International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka.
Honorable Minister of Education Dr Dipu Moni, MP graced the occasion as chief guest along with Deputy Education Minister Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, MP and Netherland Ambassador in Bangladesh HE Harry Verweij were present among the distinguished guests. BSMRMU Vice-Chancellor Rear Admiral M Khaled Iqbal delivered the welcome speech. During the occasion, Netherland Ambassador handed over the academic cooperation grant to the Vice-Chancellor of BSMRMU.
Dr Dipu Moni emphasized on maritime research and higher education in the implementation of the Delta Plan-2100 made by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and in this regard, she hoped that, the Government of the Netherlands will continue its future cooperation with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University and also will provide the same to others in the maritime sector. Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury in his speech highlighted the possibility of blue economy in the overall development of the country and the role of Maritime University. The Ambassador of the Netherlands pledged to continue the support of the Netherlands Government in various areas of Bangladesh as well as in the maritime sector. BSMRMU Vice-Chancellor Rear Admiral M Khaled Iqbal thanked the Government of the Netherlands and those involved with the grant project. At the event, the Dutch project director gave a brief presentation on the project as well.
Under the NUFFIC Orange Knowledge programme, the Government of the Netherlands has approved a grant of 01 million euros to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University, Bangladesh for higher maritime education and research for the development of maritime and port sectors of Bangladesh.
