Police open fire in self-defence, claims Home Minister

Defending the action of the law-enforcers in Bhola during Sunday's violence, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan has claimed that police opened fire in self-defence.

"Police opened fire in self-defence during the violence in Bhola. But, probe will be conducted to find out who is responsible for giving the order of firing," he said replying to a question from journalists.

The minister was talking to journalists after a meeting with the Jatiya Oikyafront leaders at the Secretariat on Monday.

Regretting the Bhola incident, the home boss said that legal action will be taken if anyone found guilty in the investigation.

"The investigation will reveal if any police personnel fired gunshots willingly to provoke the crowd. Then action will be taken against them," he said.

Replying to another question the home Minister said it would also be investigated whether anyone is trying to create anarchy taking advantage of the situation.
