Awami League Presidium Member Mohammad Nasim, also coordinator of pro-government 14-party alliance, on Sunday said that the alliance will ask Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon for giving explanation on his comments regarding last December 30 national elections.
"The opinion that Menon has given can be his personal opinion. There is no relation of 14-party with the opinion. He's a senior politician. No one expects such statement from Menon. The 14- party will ask him for explanation for his opinion," the senior Awami League leader said while addressing a programme at Kazipur in Sirajganj.
The programme was organised to start scrutinising the applications submitted in the upazila for enrolment in the freedom fighters list.
Replying to Menon's remark, Nasim said that an elected government is ruling the country now. The people have given their votes keeping their faith on Sheikh Hasina. Menon is an elected parliament member as the people have given him votes."
Workers Party is a component of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance.
While addressing a conference of his party's Barishal district unit in Barishal on Saturday, Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon, a lawmaker from Dhaka-8, claimed that the people could not vote on December 30 national polls, although he was elected in the elections.
"Although I was elected in the election, I am testifying that people couldn't cast their votes in that election. They couldn't vote in the union parishad and upazila parishad polls," he said.
However, Rashed Khan Menon on Sunday changed his stance and claimed that he was misquoted in the media.
"The news punished in different media has given wrong messages to the people, national politics and in the politics of 14-party. My statement was published partially. As a result, the confusion was created," he said adding the election that was held till to date was the results of the movement of 14-party. The activities of the 14-party must be taken forward.
