152 nabbed in five districts

A total of 152 people were arrested on different charges in five districts- Joypurhat, Rajshahi, Laxmipur, Bogura and Sylhet, in three days.
JOYPURHAT: A total of 46 people were arrested on different charges in separate drives in the district on Saturday and Friday.  
Police, in a drive from Friday to Saturday morning, arrested 41 people with 21 yaba tablets, 125 grams of hemp, 3 grams of heroin and 5 litres of local wine from the district.
Police sources said, Sadar Police Station (PS) arrested 16, Panchbibi PS six, Khetlal PS three, Kalai PS nine, and Akkelpur PS seven.  
Among them, a total of 11 people were held with drugs, 19 had arrest warrants, and the rest were arrested on different charges.
Those arrested with drugs are: Abdul Hakim, 30, Hashem Mandal, 40, Harun, 28, Babu, 28, Azadul, 44, Rezaul, 32, Mizanur, 34, Shaheb Ali, 30, Ratan, 28, Mokarom, 34 and Wahedul Ujjal, 35.
In another drive, police detained five gamblers from Akkelpur Upazila of the district on Friday night.
The detained are: Monzu Hossain, 35, Abul Kalam, 30, Taslim Uddin, 26, Sultan Hossen, 34 and Faridul Islam, 27.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Akkelpur PS Abu Obayed said acting on a tip-off, police raided Dakkhin Kanupur Village at night and detained the five people with gambling equipments.
Later, police sent them to jail after initial investigation.
RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) and Detective Branch (DB) of Police, in separate drives in three days, arrested 100 people from the city.
RMP and DB Police, in a drive from Friday to Saturday morning, arrested 50 people from the city.
Chandrima Police Station (PS) arrested nine, Boalia Model PS eight, Motihar PS seven, Kashiadanga PS six, Paba PS five, Rajpara PS four, Katakhali PS three, Airport PS and DB Police two each, and Belpukur, Shah Makhdum, Karnahar, and Damkura PSs one each.
Of them, 17 have arrest warrants, 15 were held with drugs, and the rest were nabbed on different charges.
The arrested were sent to jail through court, said RMP Additional Deputy Commissioner Golam Ruhul Kuddus in a press release on Saturday.
On the other hand, police, in a drive, from Thursday midnight to Friday morning, arrested 50 people from the city.
Police also recovered huge drugs during the drive.
Additional Deputy Police Commissioner (Sadar) of RMP Mohammad Golam Ruhul Kuddus confirmed the information on Friday morning.
KAMALNAGAR, LAXMIPUR: Police detained four accused who have arrest warrants from different areas of Kamalnagar Upazila in the district on Friday night.
The arrested are: Abdul Jalil and Ariful Islam of Char Pagla area and Nur Mohammad and Abdul Wadud of Char Martin area in the upazila.
Kamalnagar PS OC Muhammad Nurul Absar said the detainees were sent to court on Saturday.
BOGURA: Police arrested a van driver for attempting to rape a five-year-old minor girl in Shibganj Upazila of the district on Thursday night.
Arrested Sanwar Hossen, 47, is the son of late Shahadat Hossen of Meghakhardda Village under Deuli Union in the upazila.
Police said Sanwar tried to rape the girl in a jute field adjacent to the girl's house at 5pm on Tuesday. Hearing the girl's scream, her mother and locals rescued her, but Sanwar fled the scene.
Later, the victim's mother lodged a case against Sanwar with
Shibganj PS.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Mokamtala Investigation Centre Shahadat Hossen confirmed the incident and they arrested the accused and sent him to the court.
SYLHET: Police arrested a fake doctor from MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in the district on Thursday.
Arrested Nilkanto Das, 21, is the son of Banikya Das of Nayagaon Village in Juri Upazila of Moulvibazar District.
Source said Nilkanto had been working as an intern doctor at the Ward No. 26 of the hospital for the last few months. On Thursday evening, duty staff doubted his behaviour and informed the authority.
Later, police arrested him and sent to Kotwali PS.
