470,265 got overseas employment in Jan-Sept 2019
A total of 470,265 Bangladesh job seekers won overseas employment in the first nine month of the current calendar year.
However, the figure was 15.33 per cent lower than the overseas employment obtained in the same period last year, officials said on Sunday.
The officials at the Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) said in the first nine months from January to September in 2018, a total of 555,393 got overseas employment.
They said some 53,181 people found overseas jobs in September this year, down 3.37 per cent year-on-year. The overseas jobs for Bangladeshis in 2018 stood at 734,181.
Of the total overseas employment in the nine months of 2019, the BMET official said more than two-thirds of Bangladeshi workers found jobs in Middle East countries, including Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar.
According to the BMET statistics, 268,112 secured jobs in Saudi Arabia, 53,981 in Oman, 44,684in Qatar and 36,555 in Singapore in July-September period of this year.
