Sixth accused confesses to beating Abrar
Moniruzzaman Monir, one of the accused in Abrar Fahad murder case, on Tuesday confessed to his involvement in the gruesome killing.
Another accused Shamsul Arefin Rafat was placed on a four-day remand again and accused Akash Hossain was sent to jail after a five-day remand in the sensational case.
Metropolitan Magistrate Sharafuzzaman Ansari passed the order on Tuesday. On October 9, BUET Mechanical Engineering Department student Shamsul Arefin Rafat was placed on a five-day remand for interrogation.
Moniruzzaman Monir, expelled activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League BUET unit, gave his confessional statement before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Sharafuzzaman Ansari under Section 164 of Criminal Procedure Code.
With Monir, as many as six accused have so far given their confessional statements to different magistrates on different dates in connection with the murder case.
The five others, who had earlier given their statements, are expelled BCL leader Ifti Mosharrf Sakal, Meftahul Islam Zion, Anik Sarkar, Muzahidur Rahman Muzahid and Mehedi Hasan Rabin.
Detective Branch (DB) of Police Inspector Md Wahiduzzaman, also the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, produced Monir in the chamber of the magistrate who recorded his statement.
Abrar, a second-year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department at BUET, was beaten to death by a group of BCL men at the university's Sher-e-Bangla Hall early October 7.
Later, his father filed a murder case against 19 BUET students, mostly BCL leaders, and several other unnamed accused with Chawkbazar Police Station.
