IU admission tests schedule published

KUSHTIA, Oct 13: The schedule for admission test of first year honours course under the academic session 2019-20 of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia was published here on Sunday, IU admission test committee sources said.
As per the schedule, admission test of 'A' and 'C' units will be held on November 4 while 'B' and 'D' units will be held on November 5 and 6.
A total of 61,942 aspirants are going to appear into the admission test against 2,305 seats in this session, the sources said. More detailed about the admission tests is available on the university website:

KDA implementing 4 projects worth Tk 1,057.62 crore for city uplift

KHULNA, Oct 13:  The Khulna Development Authority (KDA) is implementing four development projects involving Taka 1,057.62 crore to improve the living standard of the city dwellers.
One of the projects is being implemented for widening and further developing the Khulna Shipyard Road from Rupsha traffic intersection to Hazrat Khanjahan Ali Bridge involving around Taka 385.79 crore, Md Arman Hossain, executive engineer of KDA, said on Sunday.
Arman, also the project director, said the project includes constructing 3.78-km bituminous road carpeting, 7.56 km KCC drain with common duct, three bridges-culverts-sluice gates, 3,780-meter water, electricity (High-pressure 200 LED Poll) and gas supply lines along each lane of the four-lane road.
The KDA is also constructing another 10.1-km Satkhira Road and three link roads connecting City Bypass road at a cost of around Taka 394.67 crore, said Mozibur Rahman, authorised officer of KDA.
Mozibur, also the project director said, the 2.5-km four-lane road is being implemented from Nirala residential area to City Bypass road, 4.9-km two-lane from Gallyamari to Rayer Mahal and 2.7-km two-lane from Bastuhara link road to Arongghata road.
The road will have 2020 meter KCC drain and 19 culverts, one bridge and 2.5-km divider along with the installation of 5,040 meter water, power, gas and telephone lines.
At least 58 percent work on "Ahsanabad Residential Area Development Project" was completed. The Taka 269.43-crore project includes development of 730 residential and commercial plots.
The project will have bituminous carpeting road, KCC drain, mosque and temple, secondary transfer electricity station(STS), play ground, lake, police outpost, post office, clinic, kitchen market, shopping mall and water supply to the entire area, said Sabirul Alam, chief engineer of KDA, who is also the project director(PD) of Ahsanabad area development project.

Fake doctor jailed in Sherpur

SHERPUR, Oct 13: A mobile court sentenced a fake doctor to two months' imprisonment in Nalitabari upazila here on Saturday night.
The convict is M Shahidul Islam, 42, son of late Jasim Uddin of Khord Malibari in the district town.
The mobile court, led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Nalitabari M Arifur Rahman, detained Shahidul from Labonya Medicine and Health Care around 8:00pm.
The UNO said although Shahidul has passed only Secondary School Certificate examination, he obtained DMF certificate from an organisation in Dhaka and has been providing treatment identifying himself as a specialist of polyp, piles and respiratory problems.
Later, he was sent to jail.

Abrar killers won’t be spared, warns Law Minister

Law Minister Anisul Huq on Sunday said no one involved in the murder of Bangladesh University of
Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad will be spared.
"There'll be no mercy for those involved in killing Abrar Fahad. Under the existing law, the culprits will be given the maximum punishment," he said.
He made the remarks while speaking at a dialogue jointly arranged by Bangladesh Shishu Academy and Save the Children, marking the 30th anniversary of Child Rights Convention.
He also assured that Fahad's brother Abrar Fayiaz will be given police protection, if necessary.
"Abara Faiyaz is reportedly feeling unsafe to go to his institution Dhaka College. If this is true, we're ready to give him security. If Fahad's brother wants security, law enforcers will provide him security," said the minister.
Abrar Faiyaz is a student of Dhaka College.
Anisul Huq mentioned that the government is sincere in delivering justice to the victims and disposing of the criminal cases at the shortest possible time.
"We're trying to expedite the trial of such cases at the fastest possible time...the trial for the murder of madrasah student Nusrat is over, now awaiting a verdict which will be given on October 24," he said.
The minister further said the government will take action against the university authorities if the problem of ragging on the campus is not resolved.
"Ragging on a campus is a crime. Protests have to come from the students against it...if no action is taken despite their complaints, we'll take action against the authorities of those institutions," he said. Abrar Fahad, 21, a second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering, was beaten to death on October 7 reportedly by Chhatra League leaders at BUET's Sher-e-Bangla Hall.
Abrar's father, Barkatullah, filed a case with Chawkbazar Police Station on Monday evening against 19 people.

2 die 'inhaling toxic gas' in Savar
Two workers died after 'inhaling toxic gas' in a water tank of a tannery at Savar Tannery Industrial Estate here on Sunday morning.
One of the deceased was identified as Bappy, a tannery worker. In-charge of Savar Tannery Industrial Estate police camp Inspector Emarat Hossain said an unidentified man went down the water tank of the tannery in the morning to clean it. As he did not come back even after a long time, Bappy also climbed down the tank only to become unconscious.
The duo was rescued by other workers and taken to Enam Medical College Hospital where doctors declared them dead. Officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station AAFM Sayed said they recovered the bodies and sent those to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy.    -UNB

Girl raped by ‘Jubo League leader’ in Jashore
JASHORE, Oct 13: A local Jubo League leader has allegedly raped a young girl at Sonatala in Abhaynagar upazila on the false promise of marriage.
The accused is Nazim Mollah, 35, son of late Nawsher Mollah of the village. He is the president of ward-6 unit of Siddipasha union Jubo League.
A case was filed with Abhaynagar Police Station in this regard and the victim was sent to hospital on Saturday for medical test.
According to the case statement, Nazim used to talk to the girl of Deburhat village in Rampal upazila of Bagerhat whereby they fell in a love affair.
He brought the girl to Abhaynagar on Wednesday and took her to Saidul Sardar's house at Sontala where he raped the girl several times.
Being informed, locals encircled the house and rescued the girl on Thursday.
However, Nazim managed to flee the scene.
Taijul Islam, officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar Police Station, said they were trying to arrest the accused.
Talim Hossain, convener of Abhaynagar upazila Jubo League, said they expelled Nazim after the rape allegation.    -UNB

Khandker Anwar made Cabinet Secretary

Senior Secretary to the Bridges Division Khandker Anwarul Islam has been made new Cabinet Secretary of the civil administration.

Khandker Anwar will replace outgoing Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam, who was serving for the post on a contractual service.
The Public Administration Ministry has issued a notification appointing Khandker Anwar for the new assignment as a top most bureaucrat.
The ministry has also issued a separate notification appointing outgoing Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam as 'Alternative Executive Director' of the World Bank. He will serve for the post at the WB headquarters to Washington in USA.
Shafiul Alam will start his new job from November 1 this year or from the date he will join the office with the same status. To assign Shafiul for the new position, his contract with the government was cancelled from October 29 this year. However, no one was assigned for the office of secretary for the bridges division yet. sEarlier on August 28 this year, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal gave announcement that Khandker Anwarul Islam is going to be the next Cabinet Secretary of the government.
