Kusal Mendis recovered : three other seniors recalled for Australia tour
Sri Lankan batsman Kusal Mendis has recovered and is believed to have passed the fitness tests and is certain to board a flight to Australia later this month, it is learnt here.
The 24-year-old Mendis was out of cricket since he had suffered a knee injury following on field collision with Shehan Jayasuriya during T-20I match against New Zealand (at Pallakale on September 3).
Lasith Malinga (now as captain) and two other players-Niroshan Dickwella and Kusal Jenith Perera- who did not go to Pakistan for security fears have been included in the side, it is also learnt.
According to the sources, Thisara Perera, who led the side to Pakistan in 2017 had dengue and therefore had opted out of Pakistan tour and not because of security reasons as believed. He is, however, not considered for the Australia tour.
Twelve players who went to Pakistan to play the three T-20 internationals have retained their place for the forthcoming tour of Australia, it is learnt here.
The four who travelled to Pakistan but will miss the series against Australia are likely to be : Angelo Perera, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Lahiru Madushanka and Minod Bhamuka.
Interestingly, Bhamuka had brought the 3-0 T-20 international series winning trophy from Lahore to Colombo (via Dubai).
The 16-member tour party will be sent to the sports ministry approval and for visa formalities.
