Anik beat up Abrar in two phases
Anik Sarkar, one of the accused in BUET student Abrar Fahad murder case, gave his confessional statement before the court on Saturday under Section 164 of the code of criminal procedure (CrPc).
Anik confessed that he beat Abrar up with a cricket stump in two phases in Room No 2011 at Sher-e-Bangla Hall of the university.
Anik is the third man who made confessional statement before the court after expelled BUET BCL leaders Ifti Mosharrf Sakal and Meftahul Islam Zion. Sakal and Zion confessed to their involvement in the killing.
Detectives produced Anik in a metropolitan magistrate's court.
After recording Anik's statement, Magistrate Atiqul Islam sent him to jail. Meanwhile, a Dhaka court placed Md Mazedur Rahman Mazed, another accused in the murder case, on a five-day remand on Saturday.
Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khayer Jessy passed the order when the Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Muhammad Wahidud Zaman, also the investigation officer of the case, produced the accused before the court with a prayer for a 10-day remand.
Detectives arrested Abrar murder accused Moaj Abu Hurarah from a residence at Sector 14 in Uttara on the day.
With Moaj Abu Hurarah, as many as 19 accused have so far were arrested in the sensational murder case. Police arrested four others on the basis of evidence tying them to the incident.
On October 7, Abrar's father Barkatullah filed a case with Chawkbazar police Station, accusing 19 BUET BCL MEN of killing his son Abrar
Abrar, a second year student of electrical and electronic engineering at BUET, was beaten to death by the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League BUET unit at Sher-e-Bangla Hall of the university on October 6.
