A witness to genocide ’71
KISHOREGANJ, Oct 12: Shahid Nagar Village in Jashodal Union under Sadar Upazila of the district is a witness of Liberation War in 1971.
On October 13, 1971, the Pakistani army brutally killed about 365 people in Boroitala (currently Shahid Nagar) Village.
In memory of the genocide, a memorial plaque had been erected in the village, which is about four-km south of Kishoreganj town. The ancestral house of one of the great four leaders and acting President of Bangladesh Government during the Liberation War Syed Nazrul Islam is situated in this village. Md Azizul Haque, senior teacher of Azim Uddin High School and an organiser of the Liberation War said the Pakistani army attacked the villagers from two sides on October 13, 1971, killing Abdul Mannan, Gurudayal Sarkar and Kadu Nomadas instantly.
Then the infamous collaborator of the Pakistani army Mawlana Hafiz Uddin gathered more than 400 villagers in Boroitala, and as per the order of Major Iftekhar, the Pak army shoot and killed about 365 villagers.
The collaborators of Pakistani army Mawlana Hafiz Uddin, Mawlana Abdus Sattar, Abdur Rashid Ninu Mia, Abul Hashem and many others have not been put on trial till today, he added.
