Shah Jalal of Dighinala successfully farming radish under polythene shed
DIGHINALA, KHAGRACHHARI, Oct 12: Md Shah Jalal, 25, of Belchhari area under Merung Union in Dighinala Upazila of the district, has become successful cultivating advance radish cultivation under polythene shed.
He studied up to class 8. After that, he was unemployed, and sometimes worked in others' lands. He used to grow vegetables on leased land. He always wanted to do something new.
After visiting the vegetable land of Shah Jalal, it was found that he cultivated vegetables on high bed, and used polythene shed to cover the plots in a bid to save those from heavy rain.
Shah Jalal said, "I collected the advance radish seed with much hazard, and planted those on 30 decimals of land during the mid-August. Within 45 days of the plantation, I got the yield. I sold per kg radish at Tk 50. I hope to sell radish worth about Tk 50,000 this time."
While asked how he learnt the advance cultivation method, he replied, "I have learned about the method from the facebook page of Chuadanga District Agriculture Office. Then I contacted with the Chuadanga Agriculture Officer and started the cultivation. Besides, I learnt much from the Fosholi app and the youtube."
He also said, "If we learn about new cultivation methods from our agriculture office, most of the farmers of our area will give up tobacco cultivation. Though tobacco cultivation is harmful, the farmers cultivate it as there is a certainty that it will be sold. Sometimes, we cannot even recover the capital by cultivating vegetables."
