Twelve players who went to Pakistan to play the three T-20 internationals have retained their place for the forthcoming tour of Australia, it is learnt here.
According to the highly poached sources in Colombo, the three selectors have selected a 16-member squad for the Australia tour.
Lasith Malinga and three other players who did not go to Pakistan (mainly for the security reasons) have been included in the side, it is also learnt.
As reported earlier, Lasith Malinga has been recalled to lead the side. "He was present in the selection committee meeting and we sought his inputs and at the end of the selection committee meeting, he seemed satisfied", the source said.
The chairman of selectors, Ashanta de Mel also sought inputs from the coach Rumesh Ratnayake before the selection committee meeting.
In the absence of new coaching staff, the same support staff which toured Pakistan will be travelling to Australia.
Niroshan will continue to be the computer analyst.
Sri Lanka will play three t-20i against Australia on Oct 27 (Adelaide), Oct 30 (Brisbane) and Nov. 1 (Melbourne).
In the meantime, the T-20i (3-0) series winning Trophy was in the custody of Minod Bhanuka, the 2nd wicket keeper and top order left-handed batsman from Lahore to Colombo (via Dubai). The same shall be kept in the SLC
museum.
